Setting Cisco Switch Automatic boot

HAving a problem with one of our 3500 switches.
When it is first switched on it comes up with....
C3500XL Boot Loader (C3500-HBOOT-M) Version 12.0(5.2)XU, MAINTENANCE INTERIM SOE
Compiled Mon 17-Jul-00 18:42 by ayounes
  starting...
  Base ethernet MAC Address: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
  Xmodem file system is available.
  Initializing Flash...
  flashfs: 16 files, 3 directories
flashfs: 0 orphaned files, 0 orphaned directories
  flashfs: Total bytes: 3612672
  flashfs: Bytes used: 3252736
  flashfs: Bytes available: 359936
flashfs: flashfs fsck took 4 seconds.
  ...done Initializing Flash.
Boot Sector Filesystem (bs:) installed, fsid: 3
Parameter Block Filesystem (pb:) installed, fsid: 4
The system is not configured to boot automatically. The
following command will finish loading the operating system
  software:
  boot
  switch:
At which point you manually have to type boot.
Is there any where you can configure this to automatically boot.
The conf reg is set to 0xf
Is there a quick fix or is it a return to supplier as a faulty unit.
  Thanks in advance
