传统的服务器操作系统，包括大多数Linux发行版，每隔几年都会更换。在这期间，开发者会不断用安全补丁和更新完善这个系统，但是不会进行特别大的改动，最终这个操作系统以及其上的软件会慢慢僵化。但是CoreOS的思想是成为一个随时可被替换的操作系统，甚至在这个替换的过程中，应用程序的运行不会被打断。
